Following the success of the SEEA landscape analysis of nonformal environmental education programs, we will next conduct a landscape analysis of current environmental education (EE) efforts in schools. This analysis will take a comprehensive look at environmental education happening in the classroom.
Like we have done with the nonformal EE landscape analysis results, we will share the results of the classroom analysis to equip formal educators in the southeast with the materials they need to address gaps, allocate resources more effectively, and ultimately meet the goal of increasing environmental literacy levels and stewardship behaviors. This tool will provide recommendations to systemically infuse environmental literacy principles and concepts in formal school curricula. The analysis will also spur strategic conversations to determine next steps for the development of strategies to increase and support environmental literacy education in schools and to strengthen partnerships between formal and nonformal educators.
This project seeks to go beyond increasing environmental literacy levels, providing a platform for discourse around systemically infusing environmental education into school systems.
